I have just finished researching the life of Harry Adams who grew up in New Whittington but is remembered on New and Old Whittington memorials. Harry died on 30th September 1917, His story can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/adams-harry/

I am coming nearly to the end of my research into the men on the War Memorials. Sadly, as to be expected, I cannot find much reliable information for a few of the men.
Charles Fearn is one man I cannot trace with certainty that I am following the right man, and he may have to remain a mystery.
If anyone can help with any information on either of these two men please get in touch.

Frank Wheelhouse, I have had trouble finding Frank Wheelhouse and have to admit nearly gave up until last week when I finally found a clue. Frank Wheelhouse had enlisted as Frank Morgan, presumably this is a family name but not his mothers maiden name which occasionally happens. Frank was killed in action on 15th August 1915 leaving a wife and twin babies at Sheepbridge. His story can finally be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/wheelhouse-frank/
If anyone has any further information they would like to add regarding Frank Wheelhouse then please get in touch.

This was a bit of a tricky one with still a few unconfirmed pieces of information. I have never researched a member of the RFC later the RAF and it was quite a learning curve for me, and I found some it very interesting and distracting!
I haven’t found a picture of William as yet but will keep looking and if any descendants of the Belfitt family have any photos or information they would like to share then please get in touch.

I have just finished my research into the life of Ernest Gilberthorpe. He died on 27th May 1918, he was 23 years old. His story can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/gilberthorpe-ernest/
I haven’t yet found a photo for Ernest but will keep looking.
If any descendants of the Gilberthorpe family have any stories or photos they would like to share on the webpage then please get in touch.

I am coming to the end of researching the men on the war memorial. I still have a few I am researching but there are a couple of men who I cannot find any definite link to Whittington.
Norman Dennison, John McGee, Frank Wheelhouse, John Smith, James Frost and William Fisher ( as I have mentioned before there is a Wilfred Fisher, it could be an error on the memorial).
If anyone recognises these family names or is an ancestor then please get in touch, even if it just gives me a nudge in the right direction I would be grateful.
I have just finished researching Williams life. There has been much written about how William died and his story can be read here https://oldwhittingtonops.com/whitmore-wm/
William was born at Stoke on Trent but finally moved to live at Sheepbridge. Chesterfield. He died on 23rd July 1918 aged 42 years old.

I have just finished researching Arthur Newell listed on the Old Whittington memorials as Archie. He was 21 years old when he died and his story can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/newell-archie/
If any descendants of Arthur’s family have any photos or stories they would like to share on the webpage then please get in touch. I have not managed to find a photo of Arthur yet, but will keep looking.

Though it was time to update the cover picture, Wood View, The Brushes where my great grandmother Edith Dye lived for many years.

Wood View was knocked down sometime ago with many other houses on The Brushes.
I haven’t managed to find a lot of information on John’s life but he is remembered on Brimington War Memorial as well as the Whittington Memorials. Sally Mullins has researched John Newey too and this can be read at http://www.brimington-memorial.co.uk/
