HEADSTONES

I spend quite a few hours wandering around St Bartholomews churchyard looking at graves, for anyone interested in genealogy this is not quite as strange as you would think.

Gravestones can be full of information on families, occupations and sometimes details of where the deceased lived. With this in mind I thought I would share pictures of some of the gravestones I find together with a brief summary of the family history, if possible.

I hope you find this section as interesting as I do!

The Brightmore Family Grave is near to the Lych gate as you enter the churchyard at St Bartholomews. The family story was quite sad at times as the gravestone would suggest. More information can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/the-brightmore-family-grave/

Ann’s story can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/ blog page .

GEORGE RENALD

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-1.png

I was looking for another grave when I came across this very old headstone dated 1758!

It reads:

“Here is interrd ye body of George Renald of this Town who died Nov the 14 in the year 1758 and in the 43 year of his age”.

I couldn’t resist having a look into George Renald’s life and it can be read here George RENALD – Old Whittington One Place Study (oldwhittingtonops.com)
