His family came from Prospect Road Old Whittington and as yet I haven’t found a photo of Fred to put on the website.

If any descendants of Fred’s family have any photos or information they would like to add to the webpage then please get in touch.

Its always good when the CGWC manage to find names for the men still being found on the battlefields in France from WW1, and WW2 for that matter. They have just issued a list of reburials for April. One of the men is a Sherwood Forester who unfortunately they haven’t been able to identify, but at least he is getting the military burial and recognition he deserves.

Harold died on 1st May 1917 he was 28 years old.

WE REMEMBER TODAY John Carlile who died on 27th March 1918.

John was 23 years old when he died and his story can be read at https://oldwhittingtonops.com/carlile-john/

WE REMEMBER TODAY:

William Wood who died on 23rd March 1915, aged 28. He is buried in Lostwithiel churchyard in Cornwall. William died whilst in training in Cornwall with the 13th Battalion Notts and Derbyshire Regiment.

I have yet to complete Williams story but will post it on the webpage when I have.

We remember today  John Smitheson who died on 8th March 1916, he left two young children.

I have only done a bit of research into John Smitheson’s life so far and if any descendant of the family has any information they would like to share on the website then please get in touch.

March will be the last month I will be listing the men by the month they died. I have now done the full year and hopefully all of the brave Old Whittington men will have been remembered on the day they died.
