I have just updated the photo page with pictures from the Derbyshire Courier. Harry Higginbottom and Frederick Walker both killed in action in September 1918.
I found some more photographs yesterday, from the Derbyshire Times, of men on the War Memorial. it certainly brings the names on the memorial to life when you see the faces of the men.
Horace Aaron, Herbert Pollindine, Alexander Carlile and Edwin Hewkin. Some of the pictures aren’t very clear but they are now 100 years old.
I have just got back from checking on progress of the clean up of the War Memorial.
The Council have certainly done as promised, the difference is amazing and I hope everyone agrees that Chesterfield Borough Council and Sheepbridge Business Centre deserve a huge thank you for restoring this memorial.
I have just posted a photo of Horace taken from the Derbyshire Courier 13th October 1917. Horace died at Passchaendale and his story can be read here https://oldwhittingtonops.com/lewis-horace/
There is now a small display remembering the men Of Old Whittington who died in WW1 in the foyer of the Swanwick Memorial Hall. The display will be available to view when Old Whittington Library is open. The opening hours are Tuesday 10-1 then 2-6pm, Thursday 10-1 then 2-6pm and Saturday 10-1. I would like to thank MacIntyre for letting us set up the display in the foyer. I have posted some photos but please feel free to pop in and have a look. If you have any information you would like to share then please contact me or if you prefer give Chris the librarian your details and I can contact you directly.
